Severe thunderstorms are expected to blanket portions of Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park Wednesday afternoon.

Environment Canada issued a warning shortly before 1 p.m., encouraging residents to take cover and avoid driving if they find themselves in affected areas.

As of about 1:30 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located 10 kilometres east of Morinville and is nearly stationary.
